  1. Industrial pictures, if you have access to the situations, can be
  2. impressive and have saleable value. This one has been in a
  3. magazine and is a colour slide originally.

  5. Take care, such pictures can also be dangerous to take.

  7. I arranged with the man before setting up the shot, where he
  8. would direct his burning sparks. We also agreed a signal for him
  9. to start.

  11. The camera was set up, on a tripod, with a 70/210 lens to keep it
  12. well away from the 'action'. The flash distance was then
  13. calculated and the exposure set manually from this information.
  14. Auto exposure would probably have led to over exposure due to the
  15. dark background.

  17. A slow shutter speed was chosen as the flash would be the REAL
  18. shutter speed, freezing the instant, whilst the camera shutter -
  19. about 1/15 sec - would only record the sparks - giving the light
  20. trails.

  22. A flash meter is ideal in these situations.
